Joel's advice helps businesses gain a deep understanding of the objectives and priorities of key stakeholders so that they can anticipate and navigate regulatory processes, particularly where complex transactions touch the UK.

Joel was Senior Director of Mergers at the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) until February 2022. He led the development of the UK merger control regime as it took on increased responsibilities from Brexit and greater scrutiny of big deals in the technology industry. He has also been instrumental in decisions on many high profile and complex merger investigations, particularly in technology and retail industries. Before his time at the CMA, Joel was at the New Zealand Commerce Commission, where he headed up the advocacy, policy and international teams, developing strong links with regulators globally and with active involvement in the International Competition Network.
