Dermot Nolan, Fingleton Director and former CEO of Ofgem, gave his views on the energy crisis to Sky News this morning, making 3 key points:
- Like many other European countries, the UK is still very dependent on certain types of gas - a vulnerability that has made us very exposed to the market and resulted in high gas prices which will last for a period of time.
- This crisis is a wake-up call to many countries. To implement change we must increase investment in and education about renewable energy sources.
- Things aren't going to change in the very short term but the current crisis does illustrate the importance of moving forward on achieving our climate change goals.
